Great gallery of Matthew Laskowski’s work over at flylyf. His work has a very distinct Japanese inspired anime style, reminiscent of the work Japanese animation studio Madhouse did on the Paranoia Agent series.

Even more distinctly, his work reminds me of Koji Morimoto. The female character in Matt’s work even resembles the character Yoko from Beyond.

Oh my, this is really interesting, thanks for the link – I like how his style isn’t the stereotypical anime, his work has so much mood in it… (great blog btw!)_

    Thanks for the shoutout :)
Maia is the girl I typically draw within my works, and you were close with Yoko from beyond. While Maia wasn’t based off of Yoko, “Beyond” has remained hands-down my favorite piece of animation of all time. I wouldn’t doubt that Yoko has rubbed off on Maia over the years :) You’re right about Studio Madhouse as well. I love their work on Paranoia Agent, Paprika, and Metropolis most notably. Tekkonkinkreet, which isn’t a Madhouse production [but feels like it should be,] is another influence starting to tear its way into me.

Another influence that’s been sitting on my shoulders for a while is the work of Kristian Donaldson. http://www.prodigalnine.com/ Check him out if you haven’t.

So far you’ve been most accurate at guessing my influences!
