How can you say that Banksy is not a deep artist? Even though his work is contemporary, most of his subject matter are situations and/or problems that have been around since the beginning of man. A.k.a the “Riot Peace”. Yes it is somewhat of a “one liner” on the outside but you have to delve into the heart of the work and look past the “one liner” aspect.
Just stop being so self conceded and thinking that you know exactly what the artist means in his work from a first glance.

His work has depth in the sense that he actually invests an obvious and solid idea into each piece, whereas most artists will leave things purposely vague in hopes of masking the fact that their ideas are actually pretty weak. That vagueness also allows them to parade about bullshitting themselves and everyone else about the metaphorical qualities of this and that; qualities that they probably only thought of after having created the work.

I can’t think of any artist at Banksy’s level who is so clearly coming out and saying “this is what this piece represents, period.” For a contemporary artist, that is pretty remarkable. Not to mention the works themselves are tremendously entertaining and engaging.

There is also no art being put out right now that requires any measure of deep thought, so you might as well go ahead and forget about that for awhile.
