The Glue Society Unveils New Work

The Glue Society has unveiled its latest installation at the Sculpture by the Sea festival in Aarhus in Denmark. The piece, entitled “It wasn’t meant to end like this”, is a huge mechanical digger that seems to have buried itself under 300 tonnes of rubble. It’s terribly simple, albeit terribly creative and thought provoking. I love it.

Original Fake 4 Feet Dissected Companion

Highsnobiety gets a close up look at ’ new Damien Hirst-flavored Original Fake 4 feet Dissected Companion toy. Go here for more pictures.
Am I the only one who has picked up on the /Humbrol reference (see above image)? Anyway, I am pretty sure touchpuppet could use one of these.

Damien Hirst “Requiem” Exhibition Video

Something of significant note is that seems to be aware of his impending demise (around the 3:04 mark and on). He’s undoubtedly aware that he got away with something outrageous–125 million times over–and he more than likely wants to escape the very image, and subsequent fantasy of a life,  that he himself created.
Art historians take note: The true genius of Damien Hirst is that he has, to his utmost awareness, created an outstandingly lavish critique on the idiocy of the contemporary art market by selling them a mass of [...]

The Funniest Video You’ll See All Day

Art critic completely humiliates a painfully dim witted art collector. I think I’m in love.

Takashi Murakami to Illustrate AKB48′s Next Single

AKB48 (click link for picture) is a teen-music-idol sensation in Tokyo, and our boy Takashi has been enlisted to create their album cover art; undoubtedly for a large sum of money, freshly plucked from the communal Art Tree of Money and Happiness (which is conveniently located everywhere that you are not).  Above, you can also see a clip of Murakami’s latest anime creation for LV.
The contemporary artist and occasional anime creator is illustrating the jacket for the AKB48 idol group’s June 24 single, “Namida Surprise!” Members of AKB48 [...]

Old School KAWS

Rare footage of tearing it up on the streets of NYC and Tokyo in 1997. This is his first bus-stop in NYC, a bunch of pieces in Tokyo, along with some great commentary by fellow artist Ron English.

Damien Heist For Harley Davidson

From GQ:
Admittedly, it’s not quite a diamond-encrusted skull, but has turned his hand to designing a one-off Harley Davidson Cross Bones and matching helmet. Hirst’s signature rainbow livery was applied in his main workshop in Briscombe before the bike was disassembled and shipped to Los Angeles, where it will be auctioned at the Creative Arts Agency on 23 April on behalf of Project Angel Food, a charity which provides meals to homebound HIV sufferers. Bidding is expected to start at $100,000 but should end considerably higher if Hirst’s [...]

Louis Vuitton Sued For “Art Fraud”

An art collector has filed a lawsuit against after discovering that his $12,000 Murakami prints, purchased at the MOCA exhibition of Murakami’s work, came from repurposed materials (meaning they were just reused factory matterials). The company says art’s ‘ambiguity’ is part of the ‘bargain.’
They may not have realized it, but the folks who snapped up as much as $4-million worth of limited-edition prints by artist two [...]
