The ATLAS Gallery is having an amazing Polaroid exhibition through October 9 – November 28. The October 9th 2009 exhibition will see the final “Use by” or expiration date of the last batch of Polaroid film manufactured. The opening reception will coincide with Polaroid film’s final date of expiration. However, considering the recent rival of the Polaroid format, I suppose this exhibition has lost some of its original meaning. Regardless of that, it is still a very impressive exhibiton featuring some of my favorite artists and photographers, including (but not limited to): Ansel Adams, Nobuyoshi Araki, Walker Evans, Helmut Newton, Steven Meisel and Daido Moriyama.

The ATLAS gallery is located at 49 Dorset St in London. However, if you can’t make the show, you can still check out their website to see some of the featured works.

After posting about Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, I felt the need to spotlight my all time favorite Japanese photographer, Daidō Moriyama. Moriyama’s work primarily focuses on the breakdown of traditional cultural values in post-war Japan. His work has held a haunting presence in my life ever since I first stumbled upon him many years ago.
