Photographer Spotlight: Daidō Moriyama
After posting about Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, I felt the need to spotlight my all time favorite Japanese photographer, Daidō Moriyama. Moriyama’s work primarily focuses on the breakdown of traditional cultural values in post-war Japan. His work has held a haunting presence in my life ever since I first stumbled upon him many years ago.

Photographer Spotlight: Wendy Bevan
I love the work of Wendy Bevan. Unfortunately the web is rather scarce when it comes to information on her, but I did manage to find this short quote:
Predominantly focusing her lens on female subjects, Wendy Bevan’s Polaroid-derived photography for i-D, Pop, The Observer, Tank and The Independent is compellingly characterised by its grainily realised dark settings and beautifully sinister mood.
I have included a selection of her images after the jump, as well as a gallery of her editorial for the May 2009 issue of Marie Claire Italy.

Photographer Spotlight: Petros Chrisostomou
Just found the work of photographer Petros Chrisostomou. Very cool stuff. From his biography:
This “still life” photography highlights the qualities in the objects that I would like to pronounce, and in most cases, by juxtaposing them with particular scenarios, subverts our expectations towards them. The sensation of the uncanny is achieved through a disjunction in the work, due to the contrasting elements that have been combined, that allows the viewer to speculate the real and the imaginary and therefore may lend itself to the ideologies of the surrealists.
